What if

What if
Pasta cooked faster
Traffic lights turned go as you got there
Your home cleaned itself
Your body and your life – it fit in the right place, it was touched by the right people
The disease would just warn you, not kill you
Your friends changed to lovers and back again or not at all, but kept being everything
He held you while you cried
She cried as you held her
a cloud wrapped in kisses

What if
Your heart opened to pregnant possibilities
You saw the green not on the other but your side
Sex and romance and rock and roll all oozed from each pore like sweat on a hot night
The power of the present vibrated through you and not outside you

What if
you stayed true to yourself despite
the pain, the past, the memories that last
What if the most honest you got is why you are loved
and the world becomes better because you are in it?
