Rock

Where does Loneliness go when it needs company?
Does It seek it in the high of a roll up
or the amber floating drunk in each cell
yelling “what’s up what’s up I love you” to no one in particular
Does it venture deep into the night, pick up strangers to hold
for love bought and sold

Is Loneliness like the rock without the ocean holding it
Is It that ache on an airplane where each cloud in the sky through your window is strung together by the joy of companionship
a collective spongy beauty

Will you push It away with some small talk
shop talk
crazy talk
kisses
near misses of your heart

Will you turn on your heel one day when It stares you in the face of old regrets
avoid It in crowds
avoid It at all costs
because truth be told,
It sustains you?
because the only real friend you have
is Loneliness
Because all this time without realizing it, you’ve become one and the same
