Reflected

Category: Poems | Tags: Anger

There is so much rage in humanity

How can our forests not burn
How can our mountains not spew the terror within
How can our seas not course through
and over the earth
destroying the essence of what destroys them

While men and women die
in war
in draught
in bar brawls and school shootings
crawling to safety amidst the fury of bullets
Quit it
Find another way
to stay alive

The rage which engulfs us
Which throbs inside us
Singular
Cellular
anger
from pain
from regret
from neglect
from the mistakes of others
Who are also just humans

When do we see ourselves reflected in the desperation of the
abused child
abandoned animal
adrift
When do we believe it could happen to us all
That it is happening to us all
post pandemic
post apocalyptic cleansing

Where is the anchor to our anger
Where is the meaning
we derive from
love
Or is love only a word we feel
when we are safe?
