Any kind of love

Category: Poems | Tags: Grief, Loss, Love

Does it matter how I know you
To love you
Does it make a difference to Love
To flow only down a certain path
Blood
Family
Friends
Intimacy
Religion
Nation-State

Does the colour of my skin
Risk our love
Does my beauty enhance it
Does distance destroy it
Does the way you pat my back
Or brush the tear away
Or allow me to sleep while the world carries on
Permit us to love

Is the hesitation at being a woman a man neither both
Being a loner
Being a thief
Does committing a tactless act of words tumbling out of an un-negotiated thought
Stop us from love

Does impatient prayer pause love
Does the loss of the body
The bones only in the air like mist
The grief of you near me
But not
Gone over where I can still love you
But feel only loss
At your absence
Your memory an invisible blanket around my shoulders
Your smile an artery in my heart

Does Love need us to contain it
Or do we exist to enable Love

For Jalka and Sindri
